Both Grades: 

Idea: Is what you are writing about when you are writing. It is easiest to write about what you know when writing.

Grade 4: Thesis is the main idea of your paragraph. It often comes at the start of your paragraph.

Grade 5: In grade five the thesis is no longer the first sentence but it is now the first paragraph. The thesis now gives the main idea and the three things you are going to be talking about more in the following three paragraphs.
