Growth and Development.

May 31st, 2019

Dear Parent or Guardian:

In the near future, we will begin a health unit on Healthy Living - Growth and Development.

The unit will cover some of the following areas:

  • Identify strategies to deal with stress and pressures that result from relationships with family and friends;
  • Identify factors (e.g., trust, honesty, caring) that enhance healthy relationships with friends, family and peers;
  • Describe secondary physical changes at puberty (e.g., growth of body hair, changes in shapes);
  • Describe the process of menstruation and spermatogenesis;
  • Describe the increasing importance of personal hygiene following puberty;
  • Talking about what is puberty
  • Looking at personal hygiene as a result of puberty

It is our belief that you as parents/guardians play the most significant role in the formation of your children’s values and behaviours related to human growth and development. This unit offers you the chance to discuss the classroom lessons and to consider them in view of your own family beliefs.

Should you have any questions or concerns about this unit, please do not hesitate to contact me at gareth.hussey@yrdsb.ca or (905) 292-0530.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hussey
